THE MOST IMPORTANT PRAYER

Kabbalist Rav Berg taught me one of the most profound lessons I ever learned in my 22 years of learning and living Kabbalah. The Rav explained that no one, but no one, ever quits the path of Kabbalah and the Kabbalah Centre. No one in the 80+ year history of the Centre ever quit. The “quitting” was an illusion.

So what happened? Sit down. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Now open your mind. And more important, open your heart. Okay. Here we go—

What really happened, the Rav explained, is that the Light of the Creator can never do anything negative or harmful to a human being. That is the Adversary’s job and purpose. So, when a person loses the merit of being close to the Zohar, the Opponent is given permission to take this person away from the Centre and path. They only “think” it was their decision. It wasn’t. It never is. The force called The Adversary (the Satan, in Hebrew) is given the green light to take over the consciousness of that person and give him every good reason for packing it in. And the person will even be right about some minor incident, if that’s what it takes to give him the boot. And of course, the person will laugh and deny this to the end of time. The Opponent is so good at concealing himself, we absolutely do not believe he even exists.

Each person is constantly tested every step of the way to see if they still merit the connection. Why? How? We are all given miracles, blessings, a taste of the truth and a feeling of conviction at one point or another when we embark on this path. We feel the magic of Kabbalah; the power of the Zohar. Sometimes it’s subtle. Sometimes it hits like a tidal wave. After that connection and experience, we are then tested to see if we lose our certainty and appreciation for what we were given. Our ego is tested. Why? To see: Do we want the true blessings and that taste of truth and real wisdom, or do we want to have our ego’s nurtured and tickled?

Make no mistake, if the ego is hit hard enough, ANYONE will quit. Anyone! Never underestimate the power of ego. If a person works hard at appreciating, the Opponent will not be allowed to test that person too hard, because anyone can fail. We are not strong enough, on our own, to defeat the dark side. We can only work hard at appreciating what we have and then the Light prevents the Opponent from giving us an unbeatable test.

So, what is the most important prayer we can make each day — especially now, here near the end of all the pain and suffering?
Pray to never be tested. Pray to never be put to a test that can make you fail. I always admit that I would lose to the Opponent if the test was too hard. I admit that I would  lose my certainty, I would lose my conviction, and  I would be as negative and ugly as as the most slanderous people out there — if Satan were allowed to test me with with a powerful obstacle. So that’s all I pray for. Because THAT prayer means you now appreciate what you have and that you do not want to lose your connection.

Now guess what happens? In order to give you certainty and strength so that you can pass smaller tests, the Light shows you miracles in your life, miracles that infuse you with certainty. Now you will remember these miracle and now you will be able to overcome the negativity and doubt and barrage of pessimistic thoughts that come to challenge you. Your prayer to never have your certainty in the Centre and this path tested — because you know you will lose — is how you also conjure up the force of miracles.

Now you know.
